Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to our health, and because our bodies don't synthesize them, we have to get them from food sources and dietary supplements.
These long chain fatty acids are necessary in regulating our cardiovascular, immune, and inflammatory pathways. Specifically, the important fatty acids in Omega-3s are called Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid, or EPA and DHA. EPA helps maintain circulatory and cardiac health and aids in brain health by increasing blood flow and influencing hormones and the immune system. DHA also plays a key role in maintaining healthy mental performance.

This is why many physicians and nutritionists recommend a daily dose of 1000 mg of EPA and DHA together on a daily basis.
Why not an Omega-3-6-9 complex?
It’s all about balance. Omega-6’s are an essential fatty acid and provide many health benefits, but only when there is a proper ratio to the intake of Omega-3’s. Most people get way too much Omega-6 in their diets today, and way too little Omega-3, and so the ratio is often way out of balance. This can actually cause harm to the body by promoting inflammation. Omega-9 also provide health benefits when in good ratio balance also, however, these fatty acids are not considered essential because our bodies can make it in small amounts and you can get them easily through nutrition (nuts, avocado, etc.). When there isn’t enough Omega-3 readily available, the body must use more Omega-9. This further leads to deficiency and a ratio imbalance between the fatty acids.
